It is expected that most will drive to their destinationsand more than 4 million Americans are also expected to take a flight over the weekend.

“Be patient,” said AAA Director of Public and Government Affairs Ragina Ali. “We saw some delays earlier this week. No matter where you go, you certainly won’t be the only one.”

Maryland State Police want people to remember to stay safe and sober while driving. State agents will be on the lookout for drivers impaired by alcohol, marijuana or other substances.

“If you’re impaired, you’re impaired, and when you’re impaired, you don’t make good decisions, which could have devastating effects when you get behind the wheel,” said acting Maryland State Police Chief Daniel Pickett.

State troopers will be out and about over the holiday weekend, trying to identify troubled motorists.

Over the past five years, nearly 800 people have died in crashes involving an impaired driver in Maryland.

AAA expects record-breaking travel over the holiday weekend, which means there will be increased service on the road, Ali said.

“We can’t overstate the importance of slowing down, moving over, giving our police, our first responders, our tow truck drivers plenty of room on the side of the road, especially during this busy holiday season when we know it’s going to increase traffic volume,” she said.
