ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) – Anchorage police are investigating a homicide after a man died from his injuries following an assault, police wrote in a news release.
Phillip M. Barger, 33, is charged with second-degree murder, burglary, involuntary manslaughter and fourth-degree assault.
On Saturday shortly after 9 p.m., officers arrived at a home in the 9400 block of Brayton Drive on a report of an assault.
Barger is accused of forcing his way into a home and physically assaulting a man and woman who lived there, police said. The two victims were taken to the hospital where the man died. The woman suffered minor injuries.
Barger is accused of fleeing the scene before being located by officers who responded to the 9700 block of Vanguard Drive.
He was arrested around 10:32 p.m. without incident.
Barger was taken to the Anchorage Police Department where he was questioned by detectives and later booked into the Anchorage Jail.
The motive remains under investigation.
