Update 8:05 am EDT July 4: A fifth body was found in the same Philadelphia neighborhood where the shooting occurred. Police believe the victim was shot by the person who opened fire Tuesday night, CNN reported
Police said the fifth victim, a 31-year-old man, was chased into his home, shot and killed. The Associated Press reported
Police do not know why the man opened fire, shooting at several city blocks, or if he was connected to any of the victims. CNN reported
“We’re canvassing the area to get everything we can — identify witnesses, identify where the cameras are and do everything we can to find out the ‘why’ behind this,” said Philadelphia Police Commissioner Danielle Outlaw.
A second person had been arrested who police said may have fired with the first suspect, but officials did not know if there was a connection between the two men, the AP reported

Update 11:07 pm EDT July 3: During a news conference Monday night, Philadelphia Police Commissioner Danielle Outlaw said there were six shooting victims, with four fatally wounded.
He said the dead victims were men, aged 20, 22 and 59. The fourth person, also male and named “John Doe,” was “between 16 and 21 (age),” Outlaw said.
The other victims were boys, ages 2 and 13, Outlaw said. Both children were in stable condition, he said.
Outlaw added that two people are in custody, including the alleged shooter. Outlaw said the alleged shooter was arrested without incident.

The suspect in the shooting had a bulletproof vest, several magazines, an “AR-type rifle,” a handgun and a police scanner, Outlaw told reporters.
Outlaw said it was unclear what the alleged shooter’s motive was.
“At this point, all we know is that this person decided to leave their home and target people,” he told reporters.
Police initially reported a total of eight shooting victims, but Outlaw revised that number to six during the news conference. The Philadelphia Inquirer reported

The shooting took place in Philadelphia’s Kingsessing neighborhood, WPVI-TV reported Police were called to the area around 8:30 p.m. EDT, according to the TV station.
Within minutes, police found four victims at various locations and took them to Penn Presbyterian Medical Center, the Researcher reported Four other victims arrived at area hospitals in private vehicles, according to the newspaper.
Shortly after 10 p.m. EDT, police said one of the juveniles was being transported from Penn Presbyterian Medical Center to Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, on Researcher reported The condition of the other youth was unclear.
Police said a man wearing a ballistic vest was taken into custody around 8:40 p.m. EDT, on Researcher reported They added that a rifle, a handgun and additional magazines of ammunition were recovered in a nearby alley.
