TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — It’s the last Fourth of July before primary season, and to mark the occasion, Gov. Ron DeSantis campaigned for two parades in New Hampshire.
A political expert told WFLA reporter Mahsa Saeidi that the governor is leaving for his political life.
DeSantis has been on the campaign trail since May, and so far his polls haven’t gone in the right direction. We’re still more than six months into the primary season.
A political insider told 8 On Your Side that things can certainly change, if campaign tactics do.
“Coming from Florida, I can’t complain about this weather,” Governor DeSantis said during a parade in Wolfeboro, NH on Tuesday.
“We appreciate your support,” DeSantis added during a crowded photo opportunity with voters.
The question: Is the DeSantis campaign in decline?
FiveThirtyEight is a website that analyzes and averages survey data. Nationally, former President Trump leads DeSantis by nearly 30 percentage points, 51% to 23%, according to his tracker.
Let’s look at a recent poll from New Hampshire:
According to the survey of the St. Anselm College Survey Center, Trump leads DeSantis by the same large margin. Trump led 47 percent to DeSantis’ 19 percent.
Tara Newsom is a political analyst. He said DeSantis is not connecting with voters.
“It seems voters are really starting to get to know him and the more they get to know him, the more his narrative is very different from the man,” Newsom said.
“The governor. DeSantis can’t keep up with Donald Trump, and every time the campaign stops, voters seem to take a step back.
The governor’s campaign sent 8 On Your Side the following statement; “Ron Desantis has been underrated in every race he’s won, and this time will be no different. Donald Trump needs to explain to Republican voters why he didn’t do the things he’s now promising in his first term as president. The Governor Ron DeSantis over-delivered on his promises as governor and has the national vision we need to restore our country, clean up DC, and lead our great American comeback. This campaign is a marathon, not a sprint; we will win.” .
Former President Trump did not go to a parade today.
Twice accused, twice accused and still the clear favorite of the party.
“There is a base that wants to re-elect Donald Trump and that is what Governor DeSantis is fighting for. Unless he pivots, he’s not going to make inroads, and these early primaries aren’t going to go well for him,” Newsom said.
Newsom says the DeSantis campaign needs to change tactics and take the governor off the campaign trail.
Instead, send in stand-ins like First Lady Casey DeSantis.
More than half a dozen GOP hopefuls marched in rallies in New Hampshire and Iowa today.
It’s a Fourth of July tradition before the primaries and caucuses.
Meanwhile, in this New Hampshire poll, nearly 70% of Democratic primary voters support President Biden.
