KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) – A man has been charged with first degree murder after the May 21 shooting at the Klymax Lounge.

Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker announced during a news conference Friday morning that 36-year-old Isiah Clinton has been charged with three counts of first-degree murder. He is currently being held without bail.

Peters Baker said authorities believe Clinton was the main culprit, but when asked if he was the only shooter, he said “we believe [others were also] committed”. These individuals have not been identified or charged at this time.

When asked about the responsibility of local authorities to prevent and protect themselves from attacks like the Klymax shooting, Peters Baker acknowledged his department’s role, but also shifted some of the responsibility back to businesses.

“If you’re going to operate this type of business, you also have an obligation to keep your customers safe,” he said.

Mayor Quinton Lucas was also in attendance and spoke about the diligent work of authorities to find and arrest Clinton. He says he is “a believer in local solutions to local problems” when it comes to implementing gun regulations and keeping the community safe.

This is breaking news. KCTV5 will update as more information becomes available.
