Maharashtra News Live Updates (July 9): Shiv Sena (UBT) President Uddhav Thackeray reached Nagpur before his two day visit to Vidarbha, considered a BJP stronghold, today. The tour comes amid political turmoil in Maharashtra following the NCP split engineered by party leader and deputy chief minister Ajit Pawar and a year after Thackeray’s own party split in June last year. Uddhav will arrive in Amravati today and during the two-day trip, the former Maharashtra CM will also visit Nagpur and Akola.
Amid a power struggle with his nephew Ajit Pawar, Nationalist Congress Party president Sharad Pawar hit back at Praful Patel, saying he was inducted as a minister despite having he lost the Lok Sabha elections. Pawar, speaking at a rally in Nasik’s Yeola, said several NCP workers told him that he had not done justice to Supriya Sule by not fielding her as a minister despite her repeated wins in the Lok Sabha elections. This came a day after Patel, formerly a trusted aide of Sharad Pawar but now with Ajit Pawar, he alleged that the latter’s daughter Sule had become the fulcrum of all his actions.
Meanwhile, Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Saturday said that with NCP leader Ajit Pawar joining the Eknath Shinde-led dispensation as Deputy CM, the government has become a “trishul” (trident) of development, which will eliminate poverty and backwardness of the state. Fadnavis was speaking at the ‘Shasan Aaplya Dari’ program in Gadchiroli district of the state.
