Vladimir Guerrero Jr. is the 2023 MLB Home Run Derby champion on Monday night in Seattle. The Blue Jays star defeated the Rays’ Randy Arozarena in the finals to capture his first Derby title. Guerrero Jr. he hit 25 home runs in the final, a record for the round. Arozarena has reached 23 little by little.
Guerrero previously set the Derby record with 91 home runs at the 2019 event in Cleveland, but fell short in that final against Pete Alonso. Guerrero’s father, Vladimir Guerrero Sr., won the 2007 Home Run Derby in San Francisco.
Julio Rodríguez, the Mariners’ home ball star, hit the most homers in the first round with an electric 41 (a single-round Derby record) and eliminated Alonso, a two-time Derby champion. His career ended in the semifinals, however, when Guerrero Jr. knocked him out Arozarena defeated Luis Robert Jr. to reach the final. Adolis García, Mookie Betts and Adley Rutchman (despite a show that made an impact) were eliminated in the first round.
