BOSTON — Firefighters rescued two people who were trapped inside an elevator in a blind shaft at the JFK building on Tuesday, officials said.
The pilots were taken by ambulance to a local hospital, firefighters said in a tweet. His conditions were not immediately known.
It is not clear how long the people were trapped inside the elevator.
The JFK Building at 15 Sudbury St., located next to Boston City Hall, houses numerous federal offices, including the Internal Revenue Service, the US Department of Labor, and the offices of Senators Elizabeth Warren and Ed Markey.
The building was designed by Walter Gropius and consists of twin tall 26-story towers and a low four-story building, according to the US General Services Administration. After President John F. Kennedy was assassinated in 1963, officials decided to name the complex after him to honor him in his hometown.
