AAA Reports Record-Breaking Summer Travel This Month

Summer travel is breaking records for domestic and international destinations.

AAA said it is seeing more travelers this month than the previous three summers combined.

The good news is that gas is an average of $1/gallon less than last year. However, travelers may not want to hear that flight prices are significantly higher.

The summer months are usually the busiest months of the year.

“This is a trend that always occurs and continues into this year, especially since gas prices are much lower compared to 2022,” said AAA’s Rylie Mansuetti.

AAA said it’s not just driving, travelers are also flying more this summer, which means airline prices are skyrocketing along with them.

“As more people fly, prices will increase. As demand increases, flights will become scarcer. So, economically speaking, we will see higher prices and this year we are seeing them by 40 to 50 percent more than last year,” Mansuetti said.

AAA said more delays and cancellations are also occurring and that travelers should take precautions for possible delays.

“We’re hearing reports of travelers losing their luggage in checked bags. If you can pack everything into a carry-on, use these trendy packing cubes, roll it all up and you’ll have your luggage with you and you’ll have that peace of mind. mind,” Mansuetti said.

Irene Atim returned home to Tulsa from Uganda. Unfortunately, half of his family’s luggage was delayed for four hours.

“The reason, they couldn’t explain the reason. They just say he didn’t get on the flight,” said Atim.

She is glad it happened on the way home and not when her family arrived in Uganda.

Despite the luggage delay, Atim said he enjoyed his trip with his family.

“I encourage people to travel. Go have fun and explore. I’m telling you it’s beautiful. Uganda is beautiful,” said Atim.

AAA recommends adding travel insurance when you fly and arriving at least two hours before your flight due to the increase in travelers.
