GILFORD, NH – A week after three people died in separate water-related incidents in New Hampshire, the State Police Marine Patrol is stepping up patrols on waterways to watch for unsafe boating conditions and encourage safety of sailors.
“Due to the heavy rainfall received and forecast throughout the state of New Hampshire, New Hampshire State Police Marine Patrol Officers will continue to monitor conditions in our waterways while maintaining additional patrols to encourage boaters to operate safely,” state police said in a Facebook post Friday.
The release comes a week after three people, including two from Massachusetts, died in three separate incidents in New Hampshire waters on July 7, state police said.
Keoni Hubbard, a Boy Scout attending the camp who was a high school student in Lexington, Mass., died in a boating accident in Gilmanton. State police said two other people drowned in separate incidents, including Amy Posocco, 41, of Beverly, Mass., and Shawn Barton, 40, of an unknown address.
Barton’s body was found in the Piscataquog River in Manchester, near the Goffstown border, state police said.
Posocco had been swimming with a group of family members at Middle Pea Porridge Pond in Madison when he failed to return to shore, state police said.
The State Police Marine Patrol “urges all boaters to be mindful of your wake and the impact on the shoreline, docks and wildlife,” state police said.
“Use extra caution when operating in channels or near shore. Please be aware of the potential for floating debris and navigational hazards now underwater that are normally visible,” state police advised.
