A Minot man and woman have pleaded guilty in North Central District Court to conspiracy to commit robbery, a Class C felony.
Cindy Rae McCauley, 50, and Jared James McCauley, 49, Minot, had been arrested in January in connection with a robbery at a local storage business in north Minot on Dec. 27, 2022. According to a statement probable cause affidavit filed in In court, investigators identified the McCauleys and a third individual named Michael Grosz in surveillance video footage who broke into three storage units by cutting the locks with a cordless grinder. Tenants in the units reported several boxes and items missing, including a box of the binary explosive called tannerite.
His co-defendant Grosz had pleaded guilty and was sentenced in that case in February. The McCauleys entered their pleas before Judge Gary Lee, who sentenced them to 360 days in the Ward County Jail. Lee ruled that they would be required to serve a day first, with credit for a day already served.
The Class C felony will be considered a misdemeanor after completing 18 months of supervised probation. The McCauleys were also ordered to have no contact with the storage business and to keep a distance of 100 feet. Lee ruled that restitution be reserved pending victim presentations, and the McCauleys must each pay $525 in fines and court fees. A $575 indigent recovery fee was waived for each of them, respectively.
