WASHINGTON – Former President Donald Trump said Tuesday that he has been notified that he is the target of a Washington, D.C.-based grand jury investigation looking into the January 6 uprising and efforts to overturn the 2020 elections.

“Deranged Jack Smith, Joe Biden’s DOJ prosecutor, sent a letter (again, it was Sunday night!) stating that I am a TARGET of the Jan. 6 Grand Jury investigation and giving me about 4 very short days to report to the grand jury, which almost always means an arrest and indictment,” Trump posted on his Truth Social account.

Trump said that effectively means the Justice Department will issue a third indictment, charging him and arresting him. Trump added that he is Joe Biden’s “NUMBER ONE POLITICAL OPPONENT, overwhelmingly dominating him in the race for the Presidency.”

It was not immediately clear what the charges are or if anyone else received a destination letter.

Special counsel Jack Smith, appointed by Attorney General Merrick Garland in November, has led an extensive investigation in the nearly eight months since. Smith won an indictment before a Florida grand jury last month, charging Trump with 37 counts related to his handling of classified documents and alleged efforts to obstruct that investigation.
