Would-be thieves damaged the window of a restaurant in Oakland’s Little Saigon neighborhood during a break-in attempt Monday morning.

The attempted break-in occurred at Thanh Ky Restaurant at around 6am

The video shows the thieves using a crowbar to try and open the security door, but when that didn’t work, they used more extreme measures, crashing their van into the door and the security wall.

The attempt to smash the shop window left the business with significant damage to its walls and water pipes. They then used a power tool to try to gain access before switching to the crowbar and finally breaking through the security door.

With the security door gone, they attached a chain to the second door of the business and used the van to try to tear it from its frame.

The thieves finally left after they failed to get past the second gate.

The son of the restaurant’s owners told KPIX it was the second attempted robbery in a week at the establishment. On July 10, the same thieves tried to break in and ended up breaking down the restaurant’s door.
