A fire burns on Brunot Island, sending black smoke over the Ohio River toward the rest of Pittsburgh.

The fire appears to be near the Duquesne Light power plant located on the island.

Allegheny County dispatch reports no injuries from this fire around 8:30 pm. Pittsburgh Public Safety said the Duquesne Light Company was on the scene and reported that this is the “result of a catastrophically failed reactor.”

Local police say firefighters need to ferry to the island. There is no vehicular bridge on the island.
