The next executive director of the Jekyll Island Authority will be Mark Williams, who is currently the commissioner of the Georgia Department of Natural Resources. The JIA board of directors voted unanimously Tuesday to approve Williams, who serves on the JIA board but was not present at the meeting. Board member George Ruel Joyner, Jr. was also absent. The board took the vote after spending about 45 minutes in executive session following its monthly meeting. The Grand Traverse County Sheriff’s Office confirmed Tuesday afternoon that a Coast Guard helicopter had to make an emergency landing near a golf club. Deputies say the helicopter had a hard landing near LochenHeath Golf Club in Williamsburg. The Coast Guard says the crew made a precautionary landing due to a hydraulic leak while training over East Bay.
