Monday was warm enough to bake cookies on the board, and they proved it

Though largely unfazed by a weeklong forecast of triple-digit temperatures, employees at the Ashley Furniture store in Medford found a way to smile through their suffering Monday afternoon.

Store employees Tricia Bradford and Jason Petsthe decided to make some chocolate chip cookies on the dashboard of a hot car.

Petsthe said it was “a slow day at the store.”

Adding insult to injury, power was out in the Ashley Furniture warehouse, along with other parts of Medford, and computers were inside the store.

Petsthe brought the cookie dough to work, minding the sleepers. Bradford immediately went on board.

“It took four hours total,” Bradford said with a laugh.

“We just got the Nestlé premade stuff and we put it on in the morning, about 11 a.m., and we kept checking it. By 3 p.m. it was 106 or 107 degrees, so probably 167 on the dashboard of the car “.

Bradford said the cookies were a hit, for entertaining and snacking purposes.

“It’s outrageous that it’s SO hot in Medford that you can bake cookies in a hot car. It’s like those Easy-Bake ovens we had as kids. We were all laughing when we realized it worked and they were crispy on the outside,” she said Bradford.

“We were joking that we should start putting out our breakfast burritos in the morning or maybe bring a cast iron skillet and cook some fried eggs.”

While not exactly a comfort food climate, the store’s employees had no qualms about what kind of “apparatus” was used to bake their tasty treats.

“Everybody loved them,” Bradford said. “Hot cookies, fresh out of the car!”
