A 16-year-old East Hartford resident was pronounced dead after being pulled from a public pool after midnight Thursday, police said.

Police were called to the scene for reports that the juveniles were inside the fenced off area of ​​the pool. While traveling to the pool, police received a report that someone might be underwater, police said.

When they arrived, they jumped the fence and found the youths trying to pull a male from the water, police said. Officers were able to pull the unresponsive teenager from the water and began performing CPR until medics arrived.

The teenager was transported to Connecticut Children’s Medical Center and later pronounced dead, police said.

He was identified by police as Tresor Boroze, 16, of East Hartford.

Police are treating the death as an accident at this time, they said.

“We are working with law enforcement to understand how this tragedy happened,” East Hartford Mayor Mike Walsh said. “At this time, our thoughts and prayers are with the victim’s family and friends.”

East Hartford High School officials confirmed that Boroze will be an incoming junior this fall.

Social workers and school counselors will be available to students from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Friday, July 29 at Connecticut IB Academy and Monday, August 1 at EHHS. School district support staff will also be available virtually both days.

“It’s also important that we come together to support and care for each other,” East Hartford Public Schools communications and marketing specialist Laura Roberts said in a statement Thursday. “As we all process this loss, we ask parents in East Hartford to talk to their children about this unfortunate news and let us know how we can help.”

Lifeguards were on duty this Thursday and the pool opened at 1:00 p.m., its usual opening time.

The chain link fence surrounding the pool is about 8 feet high and has several patches where parts of the fence have been replaced. There are many no trespassing signs on the fence surrounding the pool.
