HARTFORD, CT (WFSB) – Record temperatures are possible Thursday.
The National Weather Service issued a statewide heat advisory for both Thursday and Friday.
Channel 3 also issued an early warning weather alert for the dangerous combination of heat and humidity on both days.
“It’s warmer under mostly sunny skies, with temperatures reaching the mid to high 90s Thursday,” meteorologist Scot Haney said.
For August 4th in the Hartford area, the record high temperature is 96.
“It’s probably going to break, we’re currently forecasting 98,” Haney said. “To hit 100 is not out of the realm of possibility.”
For Bridgeport, the record is 93 in 1995.
“This one might be close,” Haney said. “In any case, and with the humidity coming back with a vengeance, heat index values should reach 100-105!”
Friday looked like more of the same, albeit a few degrees cooler thanks to some clouds moving across the region.
“While it may not be as hot on Friday, the humidity will be higher, so heat index values could go up to 105 again,” Haney said.
Governor Ned Lamont enacted Connecticut’s Extremely Hot Weather Protocol, which allows state and local agencies to work together to get vulnerable people out of the heat. Anyone in need of a cooling center can dial 2-1-1 or go 211ct.org and United Way can help find a location.
There is also a chance of late storms on Friday. Any that develop could include heavy rain.
The oppressive humidity is expected to remain through the weekend.
