San Diego police chase: Officers from multiple agencies tried to stop a driver who was going the wrong way on the freeway at times, police said. The pursuit began near Del Mar Heights Road but was abandoned for public safety. The California Highway Patrol resumed the pursuit a short time later, eventually ending up in the Encinitas area.
Apartments evacuated: Flames near an Oceanside apartment complex forced residents to leave their homes in the middle of the night, but crews were able to bring the fire under control before anyone was hurt.
