Phoenix police are investigating the circumstances surrounding a fatal gunshot wound that killed 21-year-old De’Shawn Shakir Pete near 40th Avenue and Pollack Street on Monday.
Police said officers responded to the area around 9 p.m. to investigate reports of an accidental self-inflicted shooting. Officers discovered Pete with a gunshot wound at the scene.
Pete He was taken to the hospital, but died from his injuries, according to police.
Police said several witnesses left the scene before police could interview them. The cause of death has not yet been reported from the Medical Examiner’s Office.
