Michael C. Burham remains on the run, but officials could be close.
During a press conference Sunday afternoon, Pennsylvania State Police said they had found campgrounds and reservations they believe are connected to him in the region. These discoveries lead law enforcement to believe Burham is still in Warren County.
As of 4:30 p.m. Sunday, a heavy police presence was developing on West Fifth Street. At the same time, a large storm was expected to move into the area.
Officials also believe that since Burham has been free for more than 48 hours, it is entirely possible that he is armed at this time based on his past behavior.
Troopers say the U.S. Marshals Service has added a $7,500 reward, in addition to $2,000 from Warren County Crime Stoppers, for information leading to his arrest.
Burham’s escape Thursday night is the latest chapter in what has become a months-long saga. He is the prime suspect in the May 11 shooting death of Kala Hodgkin, 34, at her home on William Street in Jamestown. The former Chautauqua County resident is then accused of setting another woman’s car on fire in Jamestown.
More than a week after Hodgkin’s death, Burham allegedly kidnapped a Warren County couple from their Sheffield home at gunpoint. Using his vehicle, he drove the couple to South Carolina.
The pair were found safe and Burham was eventually arrested after evading police for days by running through the woods. In June, he was extradited back to New York state where he went before a federal judge in Buffalo.
Burham had moved to Warren County on June 19.
