Suspect surrenders after standoff in Ross Township

SWAT officers responded to a North Hills neighborhood Tuesday afternoon to a report of a standoff. Thompson Run Road between White Oak Drive and Cherrington Drive was closed as officers responded to the scene. Police tell Pittsburgh’s Action News 4 the incident started as a domestic situation. The victim called 911 to report that her adult son, Robert Gentile, 48, had attacked her and barricaded herself in her bedroom. The woman was able to leave the house. Police said he suffered minor injuries. The victim told police her son had several weapons, including at least one AK-47 rifle. The suspect eventually surrendered, police said. An arrest warrant was obtained for simple assault. Police said charges could be amended based on further investigation.
