Medway Police Department issues ‘community alert’ notice for 3 recent home invasions

A Massachusetts police department is warning people after three burglaries at different homes.

The Medway Police Department issued a “community alert” stating that there were three burglaries, which likely occurred between 5 and 7 pm on Friday. They were also all in the Brentwood area and Oakview Circle.

“It appears the suspect looked for open doors and chose to break the rear windows to gain entry when he could not find an open door,” the police department said. “The suspect appeared to be looking for cash and/or jewelry.”

The department said it’s common for people to target master bedrooms first to quickly find valuable jewelry or large amounts of cash.

“If you have valuable jewelry or a large amount of cash in your home, you should not stay in the master bedroom,” the statement said. “Consider creating a decoy jewelry box with nothing but unsentimental costume jewelry stored inside.”

Police also said the intruders will often “park a short distance from their target, walk there, and then call to make sure no one is home before trying to break in.”

“If someone answers, they will have a story ready to divert suspicion, such as that they are looking for their lost dog or another address,” the department said.

Police are also asking anyone with information about the attacks to contact the police station at 508-533-3212.
