Police: Intruder arrested after breaking into sleeping woman’s El Cajon apartment

A man broke into a sleeping woman’s apartment early Tuesday morning in El Cajó and, after rummaging through her belongings, turned on the television and masturbated before falling asleep, the police.

Officers later took the 44-year-old man into custody without incident after a relative of the woman, who police described as elderly without giving his age, saw him on an interior security camera and called 911 , El Cajon Police Lt. Walt Miller wrote in a news release.

The incident happened around 5:15 a.m. at an apartment on East Lexington Avenue near South Magnolia Avenue, where the man entered through an unlocked front door, Miller wrote . While the woman was sleeping, the man opened her bedroom door but did not enter.

After rummaging through her belongings, she went into the living room where she eventually fell asleep, Miller wrote. The agents arrested him on suspicion of burglary of an inhabited dwelling and exposure to incidents.

According to police, the intruder was homeless and on probation, with prior arrests for attempted murder, assault with a deadly weapon, home invasion robbery and theft. Jail records showed he was booked into the San Diego Central Jail on suspicion of a parole violation along with the domestic assault-related charges.
