Suffolk police arrest suspect in connection with Gilgo Beach murders

Suffolk Police Commissioner Rodney Harrison confirms a suspect has been arrested in connection with the Gilgo Beach murders.

News 12 has confirmed that the suspect in custody in connection with the murders is Rex Heuermann of Massapequa Park.

Neighbors tell News 12 that Heuermann has a wife and two children and has lived in Massapequa Park his entire life. WATCH THE VIDEO BELOW:

Heuermann is expected in court later today to face a judge on charges.

The first of 10 bodies was found along Ocean Parkway on December 11, 2010.

The deaths of 11 people whose remains were found in 2010 and 2011 have puzzled investigators. Most of the victims were young women who had been sex workers. Several of the bodies were found near Gilgo Beach.

Suffolk County District Attorney Raymond A. Tierney, Police Commissioner Rodney K. Harrison, Suffolk County Sheriff Errol D. Toulon, Jr., as well as representatives of the Nova State Police York and the FBI will hold a press conference at 4 p.m. News 12 will carry it live on the air and on our app.
