UPDATE, 9:30 p.mWilton Fire Chief Jim Blanchfield reported that the call came to the Fire Department at 15:20 for a commercial vehicle “fully involved”. “Headquarters fire crews (Engine 1 and Tanker 4) arrived on scene within four minutes of dispatch, confirmed the driver was out of the vehicle and extinguished the fire using approximately 750 gallons for both extinction and review.”

Firefighters arrived immediately after investigating the cause of the fire.

Blanchfield also confirmed that there were no injuries.

UPDATE, 4:45 p.m—Wolfpit Rd. now open to vehicles.

ORIGINAL STORY: Monday, April 24, 2023, 3:45 p.mWilton Police they have closed Wolfpit Street. between Range Rd. a Belden Hill Rd. from 3:30 p.m., and in accordance with an alert sent to the city council’s email alert system, the road will remain closed until further notice.

An eyewitness sent a video to Good morning Wilton of a vehicle on fire at the corner of Greenbriar Ln. and Wolfpit Rd.

According to the eyewitness, the vehicle pulled over to the side of the road and the driver jumped out. The eyewitness heard several explosions that he believed were tires.

The Wilton Fire Department responded in “less than five minutes,” the eyewitness said. According to the video clips, the fire was brought under control and also extinguished in about five minutes.
