Two people were injured when a light plane collided with a pickup truck and then crashed as it appeared to try to land at Langley Regional Airport Tuesday afternoon.
The crash happened at 3:00 pm when the plane landed short of the runway, according to Langley Township Deputy Fire Chief Russ Jenkins.
It appeared to hit the roof of a truck on 216th Street before breaking through a fence and landing on airport property not far from the runway. 216th Street runs along the east side of the airport, and at the corner with 56th Avenue, landing planes often fly over passing cars.
The pilot and another person were injured.
Jenkins said the pilot exited the plane under his own power and was being treated at the scene by paramedics. Jenkins did not have information about the second person’s injuries and whether they were a passenger on the plane or had been on the ground.
“The plane caught fire,” Jenkins said.
Municipal teams put it out before 3:30 p.m
There was no information on what caused the crash. Jenkins believed the plane appeared to be heading west.
Langley RCMP had closed 216th Street near the crash scene, and 56th Avenue appeared to be open, but traffic was crawling through the scene.
