Michael Rodríguez resigned as Apopka City Council attorney this afternoon at the May 3 City Council meeting.
After discussing his removal by the Council during the commissioner’s report section, Rodriguez made the following statement during the city attorney’s report:
“At this point, I am very concerned about the direction this Council is taking and the means by which certain things have been communicated,” he said. “Ultimately, I fear that I can no longer represent this Council…therefore, I tender my resignation.”
Rodriguez and Mayor Bryan Nelson were under increased pressure after the City Council voted 3-2 to remove him at the April 5 meeting. Nelson described that vote as ceremonial and kept Rodriguez.
At the April 22 meeting, the Council voted 4-1 to carry out a declaratory judgment to remove Rodriguez.
