After months of speculation, the news Yellowstone fans have been waiting for has been confirmed: Yellowstone is ending its run after season 5. The show has been a huge hit for the Paramount Network, with 17 million viewers tuning in for the Season 5 premiere. But off-screen, drama about the show’s future (and The involvement of Kevin Costner) has been the source of rampant rumours.

Paramount added this will return the second half of season 5 in November, not in the summer as previously announced. In a press release, the network confirmed, “the epic and final cycle of Yellowstone … will debut in November.”

While this isn’t the news fans were hoping for, the network did offer some excitement: A new Yellowstone sequel is in the works, debuting in December on Paramount+. The cast has not been announced yet, but this could be the opportunity Matthew McConaughey to join the franchise. Since it’s a sequel that picks up where Yellowstone leaves off, it’s possible that some of the existing cast will carry on into the new series, but that hasn’t been addressed.

Paramount Network made the announcement on May 5 in a statement from Chris McCarthy, president and CEO of Showtime/MTV Entertainment Studios. He said: “Yellowstone has been the cornerstone on which we have launched a whole universe of global hits, from 1883 to Tulsa King, and I am confident that our Yellowstone sequel will be another huge success, thanks to the brilliant creative mind of Taylor Sheridan and our incredible casts that bring these shows to life.”

David Glasser, CEO of 101 Studios, added, “Dutton’s story continues, picking up where Yellowstone leaves off in another epic story. We’re thrilled to bring this new journey to audiences around the world.”
