The head of the Parliament, Virgilio Saquicela, has called a session for tomorrow at 10.45 local time to deal with the report that the Supervisory Commission has not approved, because it has requested that the prosecution of Lasso, accused of embezzlement, be filed.
In accordance with the internal regulations of the Assembly, in cases where my legislatures do not reach an agreement, it is up to the plenary to decide. For this reason, all assembly members must determine whether or not to proceed with the procedure that could lead to the impeachment of the governor.
If the continuation of the procedure is accepted, there will soon be other sessions in which the prosecution and the defense, as well as the assembly members, will have the right to speak.
Last Saturday, five legislators, of the nine that make up the Control Commission, spoke out against the report drawn up by a team of advisers to the Assembly, which denies the existence of evidence to prosecute Lasso.
Legislator Comps Córdova, from the Unión por la Esperanza bench, proposed to modify the rules of the Assembly and incorporate other recommendations, but the head of the Commission, Fernando Villavicencio, opposed putting this suggestion to a vote and log out immediately.
Although the Commission did not approve the document, the process against the president will continue in the plenary of the Assembly which, if the process continues, will define the future of Lasso in the second half of May, that is, next week.
