The NEIU Faculty Senate approved a resolution for the Faculty Assembly to hold a vote of confidence in Interim Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs Andrea Evans at a special meeting on May 4, 2023.

Evans was originally hired by NEIU in 2018 as director of the Carruthers Center for Inner City Studies (CCICS). She was named interim chancellor by President Gloria J. Gibson in 2022.

In her time as interim chancellor, Evans has led a reorganization of NEIU’s colleges and called for budget cuts. She has also been criticized by the Faculty Senate for her lack of communication

Members of the Faculty Assembly, made up of NEIU faculty and professors, have until 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 11, 2023 to vote whether they have confidence or no confidence in Andrea Evans. The ballot is available through an email faculty members received from adoodle.org. Voting is confidential.

The vote of confidence in Evans is symbolic. However, the results of the vote will be a message to the president, or interim president, who ultimately has authority over who fills the role of interim chancellor.

The results of the vote will be announced from 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 11, 2023.
