ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Asad Umar was arrested from the Islamabad High Court (IHC) premises a day after the country’s former prime minister Imran Khan , was arrested, Geo News reported.
The PTI General Secretary was arrested today by the Anti-Terrorism Squad of the Islamabad Police.
Umar was arrested while waiting outside the IHC Bar Association office where they were drafting a petition to present to the IHC. According to Geo News, he had sought a meeting with PTI Chairman Imran Khan through a petition.
PTI lawyers tried to prevent the police from arresting the force, but Umar was carried away despite their best efforts.
Earlier today, Imran Khan’s party called for a nationwide protest against his arrest.
Khan was arrested before the Islamabad High Court by the Rangers under the order of the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) in the Al-Qadir Trust case.
The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) had launched an investigation against Imran Khan, Bushra Bibi and others for allegedly gaining hundreds of kanals of land on behalf of Al Qadir University Trust, which allegedly caused a loss of £190 million to the national government. treasury
PTI workers also held protests in cities across Pakistan including Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Lahore, Karachi, Gujranwala, Faisalabad, Multan, Peshawar and Mardan, Geo News reported. In Karachi, protesters clashed with police near Nursery. They threw stones at police vehicles and knocked down street lamps.
Meanwhile, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Senior Vice President Fawad Chaudhry said the party will move to the Supreme Court on Wednesday morning to challenge the Islamabad High Court’s confirmation of the president’s arrest Imran Khan party.
