A New York Supreme Court judge has granted a temporary restraining order against New York City, preventing them from sending more migrants to Orange County, County Executive Steve Neuhaus said.
The order allows migrants who had been sent to the county since last Thursday to remain where they are, Neuhaus said, adding that more than 180 have arrived in Orange County since Thursday.
“New York City, knowing the case was under review, tried to flood as many buses as possible up here,” Neuhaus said Tuesday.
In addition to seeking the removal order, Orange County filed two lawsuits: one against the hotels hosting the migrants for allegedly violating the county’s state of emergency order, and another against New York City to establish what the county claims is a homeless shelter. outside the city’s jurisdiction.
The order also requires the city to provide information about the 186 migrants sent to Orange County. Neuhaus said the county does not have basic personal information about people staying at hotels.
“There are a lot of unanswered questions, but this is an important decision,” the county executive said.
