LA CROSSE, Wis. (WXOW) – La Crosse police provided WXOW with more details about the arrest of a 17-year-old Onalaska boy on charges of attempted homicide and armed robbery.

Police said officers were called to a residence in the 1300 block of Avon Street on May 13 for an incident that happened the day before.

Their investigation showed that Efraim Ko had gone to the house armed with a gun which he showed to the two people in the house. While police did not specify what he wanted, they said Ko demanded property from the two people.

At one point, he ordered one of the people to the ground. Police said Ko began beating and choking that person.

When the second person tried to stop the assault, a fight ensued. Ko stood up and said he would shoot.

He then fired a shot with the firearm. No one was hit and it was not immediately clear that the gun was pointed at any of the people.

Ko took several items and left the residence.

Police tell WXOW that their investigation determined that Ko had targeted these people.

Once he was identified, police were able to contact Ko by phone. He told investigators he would turn himself in.

He did it Wednesday night. Ko was booked into the La Crosse County Jail.

Police said he was arrested on charges of attempted murder, strangulation, armed robbery, aggravated assault and disorderly conduct.

The La Crosse County District Attorney’s Office said Ko would likely have a court appearance Friday.

Until then, he remains in the La Crosse County Jail without bond.
