WILMINGTON, Del. – US Senator from Delaware, Tom Carper, will share his political future on Monday.
According to a news release, Carper is expected to announce his plans as his current six-year term nears its end.
Carper was first elected to the United States Senate in 2000 and previously served as Delaware’s sole representative in the United States House as governor and state treasurer.
If he chooses to retire, Carper wouldn’t be the only U.S. senator from Delmarva to make that decision this year. Earlier this month, Maryland US Sen. Ben Cardin announced that he will not seek re-election.
Carper, a 76-year-old Democrat, will make his announcement in Wilmington at 11 a.m. Monday.
