ALAMANCE COUNTY, NC (WGHP) — The Alamance County Sheriff’s Office is warning people in the county about a gang of criminals targeting stolen vehicles.
Deputies say they have received several reports of vehicle thefts in parks and other recreational areas.

Investigators say the suspects are stealing purses and sensitive financial information from vehicles. The suspects then go to local stores and buy thousands of dollars in gift cards and money orders.
Deputies say the suspects are known to law enforcement agencies as the “Felony Lane Gang.”
The suspects are known to drive rental vehicles with out-of-state tags or use fake temporary paper tags to hide the real registration, according to investigators. Most of them are not local to Alamance County or even North Carolina.
Deputies say the “Felony Lane Gang” is known to commit similar crimes in several states on the East Coast; they typically target cars parked in recreation areas during warm weather months.
ACSO recommends that people visiting parks and other recreational areas keep their valuables on or hidden in a place that is not visible from the outside of their vehicle, such as the trunk.
If your vehicle is broken into and sensitive financial information is taken, it is critical that you report the crime to law enforcement and your bank.
ACSO is also asking local retailers to verify the identity of anyone purchasing large quantities of gift cards with credit card names. Deputies say suspects often hide their identities from surveillance footage by wearing hoodies and COVID masks.
