A group of about 18 men broke into the James R. Thompson Center early Monday morning, according to police.
The men broke down a front door at the center and entered the building around 12:35 p.m., police said. It is unknown if the men took anything, police added.
The robbers reportedly targeted the US Postal Service office located in the building. Footage from the post office showed its door smashed and smashed on Monday morning.
The iconic postmodern building was once a state office building. It’s now largely empty after Google agreed to buy it in July.
In February, postal workers told the Tribune they were “traumatized” amid a series of attacks against them. Armed robbers were trying to steal mail and “arrow” master keys that can open groups of mailboxes.
