LEXINGTON, Ky. — A Scott County deputy has died after being shot this afternoon.
The shooting happened near Interstate 75 and Lexus Way.
Deputy Caleb Conoly was shot during a traffic stop and transported to UK Health Care where he died. According to police, the officer was shot after pulling over a car in order to make a traffic stop.
The suspect fled the scene. Scott County Sheriff Tony Hampton said Conley was one of the most decorated deputies on his team and had previously served in the U.S. Army.
According to police, they have a suspect in custody in connection with the shooting.
