COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KKTV) – Multiple law enforcement agencies in southern Colorado are investigating an alleged assault that took place near the Barr Trail in Manitou Springs.

Manitou Springs Police responded to the area around 7:00 PM Monday night on a report of an assault.

When officers arrived at the scene, they found an injured person. This person was taken to the hospital.

Law enforcement said the suspect fled the area on foot.

The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office has taken over the investigation and will be the lead agency on the case.

Deputies say the community is not in danger at this time, but the suspect has not yet been caught.

A hiker 11News spoke with said he saw a large scene in the area as he made his way down the trail.

“Once we got down to the bottom, they had all the police taped up around the exit of the road. There was a truck with what looked like blood and a pile of trash behind it. They had a bunch of kids in handcuffs or I think they handcuffed them I’m not sure,” said the hiker.

We have multiple calls to both the City of Manitou Springs and the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office for more information.

This story will be updated.
