Americans say Biden deserves 2024 primary challenger: ‘Someone younger’

IOWA CITY, IOWA – Americans in Iowa told Fox News Digital they believe President Biden deserves a primary challenge in 2024.

Fox News Digital asked people on the streets of Iowa City, Iowa if they think the president deserves to be challenged for the Democratic ticket in the upcoming election.

“I absolutely do. I don’t think I’ve seen enough action in the last four years to merit re-election at this point,” said one University of Iowa student. “Even though I’m a die-hard Democrat, I don’t get excited.”

“Yeah, I think everyone should have a challenger,” said another student. “I mean, what’s the point of having candidates if we’re not going to have people running against each other?”

“So I think he obviously needs a challenger, and he could also use a challenge to bring in some new ideas,” he added.

Many people cited Biden’s age as a reason for their support of a primary challenger against the president.

“I think there are a lot of questions about his age,” one person said. “And I think some people, especially on both sides of the political spectrum, would like to see a challenger.”

“I personally would like the Democrats to nominate someone else as well,” he continued. “Someone younger.”

Another student said she thinks “we need more young people” and that her “biggest thing is to have such an old president is unprecedented.”

“So, I don’t know. I think we should give it to the young people at this point,” he continued.

“Yeah, I think he needs one,” said another student. “I think he’s too old to still be in office, in my opinion.”

Another person said he thinks Biden was “the perfect candidate to beat President Trump,” but the president has “aged a lot” and thinks a “fresher face” should challenge him.

Others didn’t think Biden deserved a primary challenger, with one person telling Fox News Digital that the president “has done an excellent job.”

“He’s rebuilt the NATO alliance in Ukraine, he’s put the needle on the economy to keep us from going into recession while controlling inflation, his environmental record is solid,” he said.

“He has been an excellent president,” he added.

Fox News Digital also asked respondents who they thought would take the Republican nomination for president.

Both of us former president trump and Florida Governor Ron DeSantis were mentioned, as was Republican presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy.

Biden already faces two primary challengers: the environmental lawyer Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and author Marianne Williamson.

However, the president has some leeway: The Democratic National Committee (DNC) announced that it would not hold a primary debate this cycle.

The president’s numbers against his main rivals don’t look good: A recent Fox News poll showed that nearly 30% of Democratic primary voters support Kennedy and Williamson combined.

Additionally, a new poll by The Associated Press and the University of Chicago’s National Opinion Research Center (AP-NORC) found that Biden has only a 33% approval rating when it comes to economic issues, and Americans they are equally skeptical about their ability to manage it. guns and immigration, with only 31% for both issues.

Meanwhile, Biden’s overall approval rating stands at 40 percent, according to the poll, which was released Monday. The number marks an increase from earlier this year, when Biden was facing numbers as low as 36%.

AP-NORC conducted the poll May 11-15, polling about 1,680 American adults and reported a margin of error of 3.4%.

Biden’s poor numbers on immigration and the economy come as his administration faces a backlash against ending Title 42. Illegal immigration has risen to record numbers under the president.

When Biden took office in 2021, US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) tracked about 100,000 encounters each month. Last autumn, however, this number had exceeded 230,000. CBP agents tracked more than 250,000 border crossings over several months.

Meanwhile, Trump has long polled better than Biden on economic and immigration issues, with Americans more confident in his ability to manage inflation.
