Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) ran into technology issues Wednesday while trying to announce his 2024 presidential campaign on Twitter Spaces with Elon Musk.
Tech entrepreneur David Sacks, who was scheduled to moderate the discussion, said on the call that the sheer number of people trying to join were “blowing up the servers.” At one point, Twitter Spaces showed over 500,000 users listening.
The call went on and off for more than 20 minutes before Musk, the owner of Twitter, ended the original Twitter spaces and tried to start a new one.
DeSantis, who has teased a White House run for months, released an official campaign video on Twitter shortly before the discussion with Musk began. Florida’s governor filed paperwork with the Federal Election Commission to declare his candidacy early Wednesday.
