REVERE, Mass — State police are investigating two shootings near Revere Beech that hospitalized two victims and forced hundreds of people to evacuate Revere Beach on Sunday.
The first shooting happened near Shirley and Centennial avenues, a short distance from Revere Beach, around 7:11 p.m., according to state police. The teenager was rushed to a hospital in Boston to be treated for her injuries.
The second shooting happened around 8:00 p.m. Police say the second victim was shot near one of the beach’s restrooms at the same time a large fight broke out between youths near the kiosk on Revere Beach Boulevard. State police say they do have details about the identity or gender of the second victim.
Police have not yet made any arrests in connection with the first shooting, but say they have one or more suspects in custody related to the bathroom shooting.
The shootings prompted an extensive police investigation. Hundreds of people were forced off Revere Beach and onto nearby sidewalks as police set up a large crime scene and combed the area.
Northbound Revere Beach Boulevard is currently closed near the south end of the beach at Eliot Circle.
Multiple state police units responded, including detectives and K9 units. There was already a strong police presence on the beach due to the large influx of people.
Police say they have not yet determined if the shootings were related.
Acting Revere Mayor Patrick M. Keefe Jr gave the following statement to Boston 25 News:
“Safety at Revere Beach is always an important priority, especially as we enter summer. The City Council will continue to work with our state partners to keep our beach welcoming and safe for everyone. This type of violence will not be tolerated and we will continue to work with our partners to create a family-friendly environment at America’s first public beach this summer.”
