Occasionally, people would get bored and talk about what life might be like after McGowan.
But you’d be hard-pressed to find anyone who believed it would pass this election cycle.
After all, the Prime Minister was adamant that he would contest the 2025 elections and no one had any reason to doubt him.
He’s had some massive jobs, including leading the state through COVID, while trying to make important things happen both inside and outside parliament.
He made brave decisions: closing the borders, delaying the reopening of the state, making difficult decisions in managing the state’s finances, and many more.

They mostly paid off, although luck with things like iron ore prices helped.
But sometimes bold decisions backfired.
The toll of that is what we saw today. Even for a self-confessed workaholic, it became too much.
And like many of those other decisions he’s made in recent years, today’s announcement will come with big consequences, and not just for his party.
