Until the end of April, Lauren Lipuma was the editor of The Antarctic Sun, the largest and longest running newspaper in the world’s least populated continent. When we first talk, on Zoom in January, she’s sitting in a conference room that looks like every other conference room. Except that this one is on a peninsula jutting out from an island off the edge of Antarctica, in McMurdo, which consists of 146 buildings and about a thousand summer residents, and is by far the largest settlement in the continent
Although she occasionally works with a freelance network of scientists and others who live on the ice, Lipuma writes most of the stories herself.
