NEW YORK (WABC) — After a historic run at Madison Square Garden, it was announced Thursday that Billy Joel will end his record-breaking residency after 150 shows.
The Piano Man has played a show at the Garden every month since 2014 and has performed 90 consecutive times.
His residency began nearly a decade ago with the promise that it would last “as long as demand continues.”
Joel currently holds the only two records related to performing at Madison Square Garden: one for “Most Lifetime Performances By Any Artist”, currently at 136 shows, and one for “Most Consecutive Performances By Any Artist”, currently at 90 shows .
Every performance is different: Joel performs the hits, but also digs into his extensive catalog of original songs to remind his fans of songs they might have forgotten.
It’s been nearly half a century since his first performance at MSG.
For the star who first came to the Garden as a kid from Hicksville, it’s the legendary status of the arena and the more than 2.5 million fans who have seen it and keep coming back.
