Poll after poll shows that Americans, regardless of political affiliation, want term limits in Congress. In a highly polarized environment, 82% of Americans support congressional term limits and want to make it happen, but there are some who want to stop it, career politicians and special interest groups. In Alabama, as I mentioned in previous programs, they are trying to rescind our resolution. Alabama passed the congressional term limits resolution in 2018, but now they are trying to repeal it. We are fighting to defeat this movement. Hi, I’m Holly Robichaud and this is Breaking News on Term Limits.
We have great news, in New Hampshire, former State Senate President Chuck Morse has joined our team and will be our New Hampshire State President. Chuck Morse is a lifelong New Hampshire resident born in Salem, with a Bachelor’s Degree in Business from Plymouth State University. He owns Freshwater Farms, a landscaping and gardening business in southern New Hampshire, is married to Susan, and has one daughter. Morse served in the New Hampshire State House of Representatives from 1998 to 2002. He served in the New Hampshire State Senate from 2002 to 2006 and chaired the Senate Finance Committee. He returned to the state Senate in 2010 and was elected Senate President in 2013. When the Republicans lost the Senate majority, he was elected Minority Leader, when the Republicans regained the majority in 2020, he was elected Speaker of the Senate In this capacity, he served as Acting Governor for two days. With the help of Senator Morse, we know that New Hampshire will join the growing number of states to pass a resolution for term limits.
Our representatives are accountable to us and we hold them to high standards of public service, it’s time to bring that same level of accountability to Washington DC, which is why I’ve decided to chair the US term limits effort here in New Hampshire. We need to send a clear message to our representatives in Washington DC that we expect them to serve the people, not their own interests. It is time to end the era of career politicians and bring back citizen legislators who are accountable to the people. Federal term limits will help ensure that our federal elected officials remain accountable to the people they serve rather than pandering to political interests. It will foster new ideas and new perspectives in government, as well as ensure there is turnover in Washington DC.
Federal term limits will also help prevent the accumulation of power and influence by a select few, and keep our government truly representative of the people. We cannot continue to allow politicians to make careers outside of public service. It’s time to take back Washington DC and end the cycle of corruption and vested interests.
As I mentioned at the top of the program, special interest groups are trying to get the Alabama Legislature to overturn our term limits resolution. This undercover effort is led in the legislature by Alabama State Representative Ben Harrison and Alabama State Senator Josh Carnley. It’s typical politics as usual, and US Term Limits condemns this effort to rescind our resolution and the special political interest groups behind it. We urge all Alabamians to contact their legislators and tell legislators to vote no on this repeal effort. Shame on Ben Harrison and Josh Carnley for putting career politicians ahead of the people.
I want to update you on what is going on with New Jersey Senator Bob Menendez, more federal grand jury subpoenas have been issued this week. For months Menendez and his wife have been under federal investigation into whether they improperly took cash and gifts from a business, which is just an ongoing pattern with this senator. We need term limits.
We have great news, another Republican presidential candidate has signed on to the US term limits pledge. The latest signatory is tech entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy, who joins South Carolina Governor and UN Ambassador Nikki Haley in doing so. The US Term Limits Pledge says that as a candidate for President of the United States, I pledged to support Congressional and state ratification of an amendment to the US Constitution that would establish term limits for serving in the Senate. and the House of the United States. since there are terms in the present as enacted by the 22nd Amendment. We asked all presidential candidates of both parties to sign our pledge.
We previously discussed the situation with California Senator Dianne Feinstein, who has returned to work in the Senate after a two-month absence. We are pleased that he is able to return to the Senate and wish him a speedy recovery.
However, questions are being raised about his return. The Los Angeles Time reports that Sen. Feinstein, who was first elected in 1992, did not appear to know that she had been out of office for two months and maintained that she had been working in the Senate for the past two months. And she had also been voting on issues even though she wasn’t. Many on both sides of the aisle have been citing Senator Feinstein’s situation as another reason we need term limits.
Congressional term limits can become a reality, every week we talk about the momentum we’re gaining, for example, this week we had former Senate President Chuck Morse become our state president in New Hampshire. With supporters like Senator Morse and others across the country, we are sure to pass term limits, but we can’t do it without your help. Please participate and share this program with your friends. This is Holly Robichaud for US Term Limits with breaking news. I’ll get back to you next week.
