Tropical Storm Arlene formed in the Gulf of Mexico on Friday, becoming the first named tropical storm of the Atlantic hurricane season. It won’t last much longer, though.

Parts of South Florida will receive locally heavy rain

Arlene is a tropical storm with sustained winds of 40 mph. There are no tropical watches or advisories in effect for Florida or Cuba.

Conditions will become more unfavorable for Arlene as wind shear breaks up, so this system will be short-lived. The storm is expected to weaken to a tropical depression today, then dissipate completely by Saturday night.
