According to Fairborn Fire Department Battalion Chief John Sands, a cleaning crew at Jacob Hall reported a fire in the rear of the building on the third floor at 3:45 p.m. There were no students in the ‘building at the time, according to Sands. .
The fire had broken out through the back and roof of the building when firefighters arrived. The cause of the fire is still under investigation, with Sands reporting that the bulk of the fire occurred in the attic and above the sprinkler system.
The entire building has extensive water damage from sprinkler systems and firefighter efforts, and two to three units on the third floor were specifically damaged by the fire. According to Sands, students on campus can expect congestion near University Boulevard and Springwood Lane for the rest of the evening.

The fire is out.
University Boulevard at Springwood Lane is expected to be blocked until 6 p.m. Students should still stay away from the scene, which is still considered active, according to Bauguess.

Crews from Wright Patterson, Beavercreek and Riverside provided mutual aid to the Fairborn department. There is structural damage to the unit’s window and roof.

Jacob Hall was unoccupied at the time of the fire, according to Seth Bauguess, the university’s director of communications. The teams are currently located inside the third floor unit.

There is currently a fire in Jacob Hall on the third floor and firefighters are on the scene. At this time, officials are unsure of the cause. The students have left the building and are awaiting clearance from the fire department. Students should leave Jacob Hall at this time. More information to come.
