2-year-old boy dies in hot car after family lunch in Volusia

ORANGE CITY, Fla. — A 2-year-old girl was found dead in a hot car Thursday after being abandoned hours after a lunch trip with her family, the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office reports.

They say the girl’s parents rushed her to the hospital after discovering she was still in the car.

Our detectives are investigating the death of a 2-year-old Orange City girl who was found unresponsive in the family car after a lunchtime ride hours earlier. Month:

The family told detectives they went to DeLand for lunch and returned to their home in Orange City about 2:40 p.m. with the girl and her two older brothers, ages 15 and 8.

Her parents found her unresponsive in the car around 5 p.m. and took her to the hospital, where she was pronounced dead shortly before 6 p.m.

The sheriff’s office continues to investigate the incident.
