Murder suspect upset boy’s mother had more friends caught trying to break into cars, deputies say – WSB-TV Channel 2

CLAYTON COUNTY, Ga. – A man accused of opening fire at the home of the mother of his children and killing a man is in police custody after a year-long manhunt.

Dontavious Carr showed up at the home of the mother of his children on Godby Road on May 3, 2022, and was upset that she had friends over, Clayton County deputies said.

One of those friends told Channel 2’s Tom Jones after the shooting that Carr went into the house and found the mother and her cousin in the mother’s bedroom and started shooting.

Three of the four people were able to hide in a closet in the boy’s room, but one of the men was shot three times while calling for help in the hallway. He was taken to hospital and later died.

One of the other victims identified Jones as his cousin, Arfredrick Magby Jr.

“I said, ‘Little Fred, I got you. just wait I’m coming,” Samiya Handspike recalled. “He looked me in the eye and I was on the floor and he said, ‘Samiya.’ Samiya.’ And I said, “I got you.” I got you.'”

Deputies say Carr was seen breaking into cars in Sandy Springs early Saturday morning, but got away. A short time later, he was seen getting into cars again in Atlanta.

He tried to speed away from Georgia State Patrol troopers a second time, but authorities were able to stop his car.

Carr then jumped out of the car and started running. As he did so, he reached his waist and the soldiers tasted him. He was then arrested.

While searching him, officers found a loaded handgun in his waistband where he was reaching.

He is currently being held in the Clayton County Jail on charges of first degree murder, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, possession of a weapon during the commission of a felony, cruelty to children, four counts of criminal damage to property and aggression: family violence.
